The Gem Theater, back in the day and now. City records show construction took place in 1914.
WELCOME TO The GEm Theater
Minard, Jennifer and Natalie Shattuck purchased the Gem in 2005, previously used for church services. After renovation for adapting to a music venue they opened for business in March 17, 2007 with Larry McCray as the headline debut artist for the Gem. Since that time, they have hosted a multitude of acts from all over the country, (centered on electric blues), obtained a liquor license, and with the interest generated from hosting blues music, have produced several top notch blues festivals in St. Louis, Mt. Pleasant and Shepherd, (Michigan).
The Covid-19 pandemic put the brakes on everything and the business sat idle with the focus of keeping their great customer base safe, healthy and most importantly alive. The re-opening has been a long time coming but the doors were opened once again with a sold-out, SRO (standing room only) show April 1, 2023, with none other than the original Gem opener, Larry McCray, who is now known all over the globe and is always a crowd favorite with his powerful vocals and his extreme talents on guitar.
